The William Mitchell College of Law Student Bar Association (SBA) serves as the student government at the law school. The SBA consists of each member of the student body who pays dues in the spring and fall semester. The SBA Board of Governors consists of 20 elected members from the student body: President, Vice President, one member from each of the 1L sections, four members from each 2L and 3L classes, two members from the 4L class, and two at-large members.
The main purposes of the SBA are to develop camaraderie among the students and to promote understanding between the students and the college.
The SBA Board of Governors is the voice for the student body; allocates funding for student organizations; and, is a unifying support system for its members by coordinating and sponsoring educational, social, and athletic activities.
The following is a list of what the SBA and its Board of Governors does throughout the year:
- holds general at-large meetings each month
- holds committee meetings for budget, by-laws, and elections, which members consist of only students within the Board of Governors
- holds committee meetings for social, bookstores, parking/safety, facilities, and faculty relations, which members consist of any interested SBA member until each committee seat is filled
- coordinates and sponsors enjoyable on-campus and off-campus social events
- assists first year students through the William Mitchell Student to Student Mentoring Program
- presents the Excellence Development Program
- attends local, regional, and nation-wide events to serve as a voice for William Mitchell
- the SBA President attends quarterly William Mitchell Board of Trustee meetings and monthly faculty meetings (as non-voting member)
- appoints student representatives to the college's faculty committees

Our Mission
We represent the students.
Recognizing the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the student body, the SBA aspires to represent each unique student. To accomplish this goal, the SBA listens to the problems and concerns accompanying each student and advocates the pertinent issues to crucial decision makers. The SBA supports and promotes diverse student organizations to supplement education, professional growth and socialization. Hosting annual social events, the SBA promotes friendships and professional relationships.
Our Vision
To provide diverse and enriching professional, extracurricular and social opportunities to the student body while ensuring that the students’ interests are represented at every level and striving for the most efficient use of student activity fee dollars to benefit the maximum number of students.
