In 2003, William Mitchell College of Law hosted the CLEO (Council on Legal Education Opportunity) Summer Institute for the second time in three years.
For six weeks, about 35
pre-law students from
17 states converged at William Mitchell to get
an introduction to the study of law.
The institute is designed to evaluate a students' capacity for learning the law, while also acclimating them to the rigors of law school. It is targeted toward students from under-represented groups, including minorities, the economically disad-vantaged, and those from inner-city and rural areas.
Each day of the institute was packed with classes on a variety of topics, including introductions to Legal Writing, Blue Book, Torts, Constitutional Law, Reading and Briefing Cases, and Library Resources. Students also attended classes on legal ethics and professionalism, study skills, and stress management.
