William Mitchell's Future in Learning Law program began in 1989. Since then, more than 350 Minnesota high school students have taken part in it. The program includes classes in law-related subjects, a sampling of law school education, and preparation for and participation in a realistic mock trial presided over by actual judges and practicing attorneys, or a model U.N. program.

Through 48 hours of a combination of lectures, discussion groups, hands-on workshops, and at least one field trip to a Minnesota court, students meet and hear from lawyers, judges, paralegals, law clerks, and law students, many of them members of the diverse legal community. Some came to law school after other careers. All are examples of what FILL students can achieve.
