The Public Health Law Center, a nonprofit legal center at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, has an immediate opening for an experienced, high-level public health attorney.  The attorney will be critical to the success of a new Public Health Law Network (Network) providing vital legal support to the nation’s public health agencies and will provide leadership, coordination, communications and outreach on behalf of the regional centers and Network partners. 


In collaboration with the program director, the attorney will:  identify legal issues within the field of public health law; build and maintain a collaborative partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation;  build and maintain strong relationships with public health and legal experts; establish and maintain a comprehensive repository of legal information to be used by public health practitioners and policy advocates; educate public health practitioners and other constituencies about the Network and its services; develop and deliver training; provide day to day oversight to the center’ staff; and proactively develop ways to ensure the Network’s sustainability, including identifying, pursuing and creating funding opportunities. 


Qualifications:  Admission to the bar; 7+ years of experience in public health law.  Experience in municipal law, health regulation, administrative law or other relevant area of law may be considered; excellent legal research, writing, and public speaking skills; previous leadership experience including managing people and building and leading a start-up organization; excellent organizational skills; and the ability to create and maintain partnerships and collaborative relationships.  Previous experience in development, fundraising, nonprofit or administration of charitable grants is desired.
