Students focusing in intellectual property law can also participate in two moot court competitions. Through moot courts, students gain more experience in writing briefs and presenting oral arguments.

Teams for moot court competitions are chosen through a competitive application process. Application forms and moot court criteria can be obtained from Ken Port, director of intellectual property law studies, office number 302.

Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court
Patent law is often the subject matter of this appellate advocacy competition. In this competition, each student team writes briefs for both the appellant and appellee and does oral arguments at the regional and (if successful) national level.

Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court
Trademark and unfair competition law are the focus of this appellate advocacy competition. Here each student team writes one brief and, like the Giles Rich competition, engages in oral arguments on a regional and (if successful) national level.
