Welcome

A pioneer in practical legal education for the past 108 years, William Mitchell College of Law continues to lead the way as an innovator in curriculum development, integrating practice skills with legal doctrine.

Our latest innovation--Pathways to the Profession of Law--is a web-based curricular advising tool that helps law students create a course plan and connect their education to law practice. Consistent with recent Carnegie Foundation recommendations, Pathways encourages students to integrate the analytical, practical, and professional aspects of their education.

William Mitchell is working to make Pathways accessible to all law schools and is seeking law school partners to beta test our software package.

Demonstration of Pathways

Pathways to the Profession of Law is an interactive application that is adaptable to any law school website. The Pathways program helps students choose, sequence, and prioritize courses by showing them visual representations of different routes through the upper-level curriculum. It encourages them to build toward practice by connecting their coursework to extra-curricular experiences and the larger profession of law. In addition to course descriptions and instructor listings, Pathways can also include information about clerkships, public service opportunities, professional organizations, and much more.

Below, Professor Denise Roy, who helped develop Pathways, demonstrates how this innovative tool works.
