“The Pat Miles Show”— March 27, 2006, WCCO-830 AM, Minneapolis                                                                                       Eileen Scallen, law professor at William Mitchell, comments on the proposed marriage amendment to the Minnesota Constitution on The Pat Miles Show. Scallen noted several areas, which could be affected by the amendment, including health insurance benefits for same-sex partners.

“Court rules Minneapolis 'photo cop' ordinance illegal”— March 22, 2006, Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder                                                         Peter Erlinder, professor of constitutional law at William Mitchell, comments on the recent decision by the Hennepin County District Court declaring the "photo cop" system illegal that was supported by a Minneapolis ordinance.

“Court lets stand tobacco verdict”— March 21, 2006, The Washington Times                                                                                                 Douglas Blanke, director of the Tobacco Law Center at William Mitchell, comments on the recent decision of the Supreme Court to uphold a $50 million award to a family who sued Philip Morris USA for fraud, negligence, misrepresentation, and selling a defective product in the death of a family member. Blanke noted that tobacco litigation has changed in that jurors are no longer accepting the defenses that have served the tobacco industry in the past.

“New chamber chairman continues MetroNorth mission, plans changes to improve efficiency”— February 24, 2006, Blaine-Spring Lake Park Life    Mike Simpson, William Mitchell graduate of 1978 and commercial property broker, talks about his new role as chairman of the MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce and his goal of promoting business in the northern metro trade area and strengthening the community.

“Dolan takes on Sarbanes-Oxley”— March 19, 2006, St. Paul Pioneer Press                                                                                                   Janet Dolan, William Mitchell graduate of 1976, discusses her role on an advisory panel looking to ease the requirements for small companies to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

“Golden Oval Eggs Names William Bloyer as Vice President of Supply Chain”— March 16, 2006, Business Wire                                             William Bloyer, 1980 graduate of William Mitchell, was named Vice President of Supply Chain of Golden Oval Eggs, LLC, a value-added cooperative owned and directed by agricultural producers. Most recently, Bloyer served as Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain for the Bakery and Food Service Products Division of International Multifoods.

“Frauenshuh retires after 41 years of law practice”— March 15, 2006, Paynesville Press                                                                                    Ron Frauenshuh, Sr., a 1964 graduate of William Mitchell, retires after 41 years of law practice. Among his main areas of practice, including civil liability and personal injury, Frauenshuh also served as city attorney for the city of Paynesville for over 30 years.

“The Secret Government”— March 10, 2006, The Jurist Forum, University of Pittsburg Law School                                                       Afsheen John Radsan, professor at William Mitchell, discusses the topic of secrecy under the Bush administration in this op-ed piece. Radsan notes that keeping some secrets is necessary to the country's intelligence and military policies; however, in extreme cases, it may go against basic American principles.

“Roadmap to Resolution: Finding a way to resolve conflicts between peers”— March 1, 2006, Minnesota Educator, St. Paul                         Christine VerPloeg, professor at William Mitchell, and her students, developed a program for Education Minnesota to assist in dispute resolution between education employees. VerPloeg teaches alternative dispute resolution at William Mitchell.

“Hamline's Health Law Center to address disease, disasters”— March 3, 2006, Business Journal, Minneapolis-St. Paul                                      Lucinda Jesson, adjunct professor at William Mitchell, comments on the newly created Health Law Center at Hamline University School of Law. Jesson was named director of the center, which will open this fall.
