William Mitchell launches program for students and alumni focusing on growth areas of law

Retooling for the New Economy includes both traditional CLEs and classes at Mitchell

Changes in the economy are driving changes in the legal profession. Areas of law that once provided ample employment opportunities are shrinking, while other areas are growing. To help William Mitchell alumni and students better anticipate, understand, and leverage the growth areas, the law school is launching a program called “Retooling for the New Economy.”

Retooling for the New Economy is a program that includes both traditional CLE programs and classes at William Mitchell. It’s designed to be informational, educational, and to provide a foundation for action. Alumni will be invited to attend free CLEs on areas of the law that are expanding and require specific knowledge and skills. Then, if they’re interested in learning more, alumni can enroll, free of charge on a space available basis, in courses from William Mitchell’s curriculum that address the subject. Time spent attending college courses qualifies for CLE credit. Alumni are also invited to take advantage of the services of the Office of Career & Professional Development to help identify opportunities to put their new knowledge and skills to work. The program is also available to current students who may be rethinking their career strategies.

The first Retooling for the New Economy CLE is scheduled from 3 to 4:20 pm Wednesday, April 15, in Room 319. Presented by Professor Eileen Roberts ’80, it will focus on the future of energy law and policy in the United States and abroad. Presenters are Christina K. Brusven ’07, Fredrikson & Byron; Kevin D. Johnson ’93, Stoel Rives; Katie L. Nordahl, Fredrikson & Byron; and Leon Steinberg ’80, CEO, National Wind.
