Students advance to nationals in intellectual property moot court competition
Team also wins Best Appellant Brief
For the third consecutive year, William Mitchell College of Law will be sending a student team to the national finals of the Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition.
Matt DeRuyter and Todd Schenk, both 3Ls, placed second among 28 teams in the Midwest Regional Competition held March 16-18 in Chicago. DeRuyter and Schenk also received an award for Best Appellant Brief.
DeRuyter and Schenk will advance to the national finals held April 18-20 in Washington D.C. Martha Engel and Marsha Pernat, both 2Ls, also participated in the Midwest Regional Competition. The William Mitchell teams were coached by adjunct professor James A. Baker ´03 and faculty advisor Kenneth L. Port, director of Intellectual Property Law Studies.
Now in its 34th year and named for the late distinguished patent law scholar and senior jurist of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition is sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
