William Mitchell Professor C. Peter Erlinder will be a featured guest on the Our World In Depth local cable TV television show on “International Tribunals, History Told by the Victors and the Geo-politics of Africa (Part 2).” The show airs on SPNN Channel 15 at 5 pm, Tuesday, Feb. 2, and 10 am, Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Debra Hilstrom receives Student Award of Merit for contributions to William Mitchell and community


Debra Hilstrom ’10 received the Student Award of Merit at commencement ceremonies Jan. 16. She balanced duties as a state legislator with law school, advocated for Mitchell, and earned her degree in just 2 ½ years.

More than 100 volunteers help 346 people with legal issues at Project Homeless Connect

The December 2009 Project Homeless Connect event, which connects those in need with free services and resources in one location, provided 346 people with legal assistance—100 more than at any of the event’s past four years.

LAMP Clinic state Supreme Court victory ends “pay for stay” prior to conviction


William Mitchell’s Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners (LAMP) Clinic won a major case at the Minnesota Supreme Court on Dec. 3, 2009. The case impacts counties and people accused of crimes across the state. The Court ruled in Jones v. Borchardt that county jails must stop charging inmates for room and board before they are convicted of a crime.

Nine Mitchell students receive 2010-11 judicial clerkships in state appellate courts

Nine Mitchell students were selected for 2010-11 judicial clerkships in state appellate courts after they graduate in May 2010. Carol Washington and Emily Polachek will clerk for Chief Justice Eric Magnuson ’76 and James Graves will clerk for Justice Helen Meyer ’83 at the Minnesota Supreme Court. Students selected for Minnesota Court of Appeals clerkships are: Emily Babcock, Judge Kevin Ross; Laura Bartlow, Judge Wilhelmina Wright; Molly Burke and Jim Wilson, Judge Harriet Lansing; Wyatt Partridge, Judge Terri Stoneburner; and Paul Sand, Judge Matthew Johnson ’92. Brian Carter-Stiglitz ’09, currently serving as a clerk for U.S District Court Judge Robert Cleland in Michigan, was selected for a 2010-11 federal clerkship with U.S. District Court Judge Joan Erickson in Minnesota.
