Copyright Policy

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.  One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research."  If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

The Warren E. Burger Library expects that all users will strictly adhere to copyright law in both their requests for and their use of materials.

The library has four self-service copier/printers located in the copy room next to the circulation desk.  All four machines do double-sided copying, collating, stapling, multiple paper sizes, and printing from the network computers.

Students use their student ID number to activate the machines and charge copies to their student account.

Each student’s account will be charged $10 in the fall term for printing and copying charges. This charge will allow each student to receive 250 pages of printing and copying per term, at a cost of $0.04 per copy.

The page count starts July 1 but isn’t billed until the fall term. Double sided prints and copies count as 2 pages. Students may carry over the balance until a year after graduation. If students need more than the 250 pages allotted they may purchase more pages in $5 increments (125 pages). Extra pages can be purchased at the Library Circulation Desk in cash or check. Information to where you can check your remaining number of pages will be available soon.

Attorneys and members of the general public may purchase a copy card at the circulation desk in either $2, $5 or $10 values.  There is a one-time, $1charge for the card when it is initially purchased.  After that, value may be added to it at any time and in any amount.  Copies are 10 cents a page (20 cents for double-sided pages) for public users.

Assistance with photocopying is available from the Circulation Desk staff.
