National Lawyers Guild
The National Lawyers Guild is an organization of lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers dedicated to the need for basic change in the structure of our political and economic system. It was founded over 50 years ago in response to a vote by the ABA to remain racially segregated. It continues to serve as an effective political and social force in the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property rights. The Guild has actively supported the rights of workers, women, farmers, and minority groups.
At William Mitchell, the Guild attempts to bring in speakers on a variety of topics of social and political interest. It also provides a support organization for law students committed to the struggle for social and economic justice by providing peers with similar philosophical and political interest. Members of the Guild have worked with Guild attorneys in many important and interesting areas of the law.
