Alternative Dispute Resolution
Introduction to Commercial Arbitration
At William Mitchell, we prepare you to resolve disputes outside of the courtroom. Alternative dispute resolution offers disputing parties nonjudicial routes — negotiation, mediation, and arbitration — to settle disagreements.
At William Mitchell, ADR courses qualify you to be a neutral mediator and arbitrator for a variety of cases, including family mediation, and they also teach you how to create ADR systems that allow companies and organizations to prevent and manage internal conflicts. For example, students in our Advanced ADR course have designed such systems for a Fortune 500 company and Minnesota's largest union.

William Mitchell is also home to the Advanced Dispute Resolution Institute, a nonprofit institute that provides free and current information on the latest legal developments in ADR for the legal community and ADR practitioners.
