Mary Mahto

Stewardship Officer
Mary oversees all donor acknowledgement and recognition programs for the Mitchell development team. She ensures major donors receive timely, appropriate information on the use and impact of their gifts, specifically those to endowments. She also assists the development team with specific stewardship needs for individual as well as organization donors. Mary has worked with non-profit organizations in a variety of roles for 15 years.

Marie Ruzek '01

Development Officer
Marie Ruzek has been part of William Mitchell’s Development Office for three years. Before returning to her alma mater, she served in other fundraising capacities at the Minnesota Medical Foundation and the Minnesota Justice Foundation at the University of Minnesota Law School. Marie is the team’s expert in estate planning and is also focusing her time on fundraising for Mitchell’s IP Institute.

Lisa Barton '97

Director of Development
Lisa joined William Mitchell as the Director of Development in the summer of 2007. Most recently she worked in development at the University of Utah. Prior to that, she was with The George Washington University Law School after practicing law for several years in Washington, D.C. She graduated from William Mitchell in 1997.

Major Gifts Officer
Bill came to William Mitchell from Hamline University Law School. As Major Gifts Officer, Bill is engaging alumni and friends in the life of the law school so they recognize and respond to the need for financial support for the school. He has 26 years of development experience.

Ways to Make an Impact

Cash and pledges

A gift of cash is an easy way to confirm your commitment to William Mitchell. You can deduct gifts of up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income in the year they are donated.

Stock and other securities

Consider making a gift of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and treasuries to William Mitchell. In addition to enjoying a tax deduction of the value of your gift, you can also avoid paying tax on the capital gains accumulated while holding the asset.

Real estate

A gift of real estate that you have held for more than one year entitles you to a charitable deduction for the property’s full fair market value, as determined by an independent appraisal.

IRA and retirement assets

You can remember William Mitchell by naming the college as benefi ciary of your retirement plan while continuing to retain the income benefi ts during your lifetime. After your death, William Mitchell benefits according to your wishes and your gift is not reduced by income or estate taxes.

Income-producing gifts

You can make a gift to William Mitchell and at the same time receive a charitable income tax deduction and an income for yourself or your loved ones for life.

Charitable lead trusts

These trusts provide income to William Mitchell for a predetermined number of years. The assets are then returned to the donor - or to another person designated at the donor's death or at the end of a term of years.
