Jay Erstling, Director of the Patent Cooperation Treaty and Advisor to the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, will join the William Mitchell faculty in fall 2007. Erstling will teach in the law school's intellectual property program, which has 17 courses, three full-time nationally recognized faculty, and adjuncts from the top intellectual property firms in the Twin Cities.
Samson Helfgott, director of patents at KattenMuchinRosenman in New York and head of international intellectual property matters for the American Bar Association intellectual property section, says of Erstling, “I view him as one of the most important individuals in the intellectual property community today."


Carolyn Grose, a professor specializing in family law, legal ethics, and clinical pedagogy, has joined the William Mitchell faculty. She was previously practitioner in residence for the Women and Law Clinic, at American University’s Washington College of Law.
Her scholarship focuses on ethics and the role of critical reflection in legal practice, including pieces on self-regulation among lawyers. Her interest in ethics originated in her work as a clinical professor.

Named among the “Lawsuits of the Year” by Minnesota Law & Politics, the hot civil rights dispute between GLBT Pride/Twin Cities and the Star Tribune was recently settled. The amicable resolution owed much to the lawyering skills of Eileen Scallen, professor of law at William Mitchell.
