Externships

William Mitchell offers several externships, putting you to work as a clerk, advocate, or research assistant with a judge, business, a government agency or organization. No matter what type of law you plan to practice, there is no better preparation than practicing those skills before you even graduate.

In an externship, you may provide a public service while attending agency hearings or appellate arguments; observing judges; or examining global developments in women's rights, human rights, and historic and current American civil rights cases. In all settings you will experience first-hand the often-conflicting moral, professional, financial, and political imperatives inherent in the work of a lawyer.
