Advocacy & Trial Skills

From your first day at William Mitchell you will begin to hone your trial skills. Starting with our required, innovative Writing & Representation series, you will master research and writing, and learn how to interview clients, examine witnesses, make opening and closing statements, and present an appellate argument.

You can then expand on these skills with our Advanced Advocacy, Pretrial Litigation, and Legal Practicum courses, where you learn how to collect evidence and perform mock trials and hearings using our four high-tech courtrooms as well as our high-tech classrooms. These court-rooms allow your performance to be viewed and critiqued by real lawyers and judges. Our required course on Professional Responsibility will prepare you to handle the ethical dilemmas inherent in the work of a lawyer. Finally, our clinics, externships, and competitions give you the opportunity to demonstrate outside of the classroom the skills you've learned.
