Alumni mentor

“I am in my third year as an alumni mentor at William Mitchell and have had a great experience with the Alumni-Mentor Advisor Program. I really enjoy staying active with William Mitchell and giving back to the school as an alumnus. My favorite part of the program, however, is meeting the new students each year.  The mentees ask great questions and are always eager to hear everything you have to say about careers, networking, classes, and studying.”

Professional development opportunities

Opportunities to engage our students outside the classroom

In addition to hiring associates or attorneys, your office can participate in the following:

Externships and Clinics
Students work for academic credit as clerks, advocates, or research assistants with judges, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations.

Apprenticeships
This program matches 2Ls and 3Ls with practicing attorneys for active participation, critical observation, and the nurturing of a professional mentoring relationship.

Mentoring
Small groups of first-year students are matched with a pair of recent alumni attorneys. Throughout the year, students and mentors attend events on campus and plan experiences that help students transition into law school.

Job Shadowing
Students shadow a practicing attorney over spring break. Students spend a day in courtroom proceedings, negotiations, touring law firms, and participating in informational interviews.
