Connecting alumni and students
The mentor program strives to provide the most meaningful and satisfying experience for both students and participating alumni. With that in mind, improvements have been made to:
- Provide new law students with an opportunity to connect with recent (2000-07) law school graduates who will provide the type of guidance, advice, and practical wisdom to help them make it through their first year.
- Harness the incredible professional strength and depth of our longstanding alumni and make them available to first-year students in a flexible manner.
Two new initiatives will better serve our students and alumni. Check out the ways you can get involved.
Alumni Mentor Advisors Program
2000-07 Grads: Mentor WRAP students in A-MAP
When a student is transitioning into his or her first semester of law school, there are many difficult challenges, questions, and fears that can be overwhelming. Recent Mitchell graduates can provide the type of guidance, advice, and practical wisdom that best meets the immediate needs of a first-year law student.
The A-MAP program assigns two alumni mentor advisors to each WRAP group with 10-12 students. Students in the WRAP group may contact the mentor advisors individually and participate in group activities. Throughout the year, mentors have an opportunity to engage students in a number of events on campus including:
- A kick-off event.
- An informal happy hour at Billy’s.
- A mentor appreciation reception in the spring.
In addition, the mentor advisors have a list of suggested group activities for students to participate in, such as visiting a law firm, observing a court hearing, or inviting a student to attend a bar association meeting.

Alumni Resource Directory
Students at all points in their academic career visit Career Development at William Mitchell looking for an opportunity to meet one-on-one with attorneys to learn more about areas of practice, the legal community, and specific lawyering skills.
Our Alumni Resource Directory is a comprehensive database of alumni who have volunteered to meet with students one-on-one or to volunteer in another way. Students may use this directory to contact alumni to discuss particular areas of interest, to accompany alums to an event, such as a bar association meeting or court hearing, mock interview practice, or seek individual career advice through a one-on-one informational interview.
The directory is available to all William Mitchell students through the Career & Professional Development office.
