Scholars, practitioners, pioneers
The most significant differences about a William Mitchell education stem from our professors’ engagement with real-world practice and law reform.
Some of the professors here are deeply engaged in advising emerging democracies about establishing their legal systems. Others are pioneers in areas such as elder law and family law. Faculty members have been responsible for innovations in the practice of intellectual property law. They’ve served on the bench as well as the bar, and some have had careers in public service, government, and corporations. They don’t shrink from speaking out or publishing on controversial legal issues or handling cases many lawyers would shy away from.
In addition to our core faculty, we deliberately cultivate a strong adjunct faculty, knowing their contributions are essential to the Mitchell Mix.
When you have a class that’s taught by a professor who may have written the statute you’re studying or argued the case you’re reading, you set the stage for a more exciting, insightful education in the law. There’s no substitute for experience, and by sharing their experiences, our faculty members don’t simply teach, they enlighten.
