William Mitchell College of Law seeks to educate talented, motivated women and men who will effectively and ethically serve their clients and employers, their local and wider communities, their profession, and their law school. To achieve that goal, the law school and its admissions committee hold themselves to high standards of judgment, experience, and fairness.

William Mitchell College of Law strives to ensure that:

William Mitchell admits students on a rolling basis for about 330 places in the first-year class. We begin to accept applications for the fall of 2007 after October 1, 2006. Because the college admits on a rolling basis, it is to the student’s advantage to apply early in the application process. Our deadline for applications for fall semester 2007 enrollment is May 1, 2007. However, because of our rolling admission process, the places available in our entering class may be filled by that date. November 1, 2007, is the deadline for transfer applications for spring-semester matriculation. First-year students may enter fall semester only.

Information submitted to William Mitchell College of Law as a part of an application becomes the property of the college.

The college reserves the right to reject any applicant for admission, regardless of fulfillment of requirements stated in this application booklet or elsewhere. The law school’s nondiscrimination policy is observed in all cases.

Admissions Process

The admissions committee will evaluate your application as soon as it has received all items listed under Requirements for Admission.

The admissions committee reviews each applicant’s transcript(s) carefully, taking into account undergraduate grade point average and:

• difficulty of course work;
• quality of institutions attended;
• applicant’s full- or part-time employment while earning a degree;
• any pattern in performance over the applicant’s full academic career;
• completion of advanced-degree coursework.

On the application for admission, you must indicate whether you are applying to attend William Mitchell for full-time, part-time or either status. Admissions decisions are made without regard to your status preference.  The status assigned to you applies only to your first year at William Mitchell. After your first year and throughout subsequent years at William Mitchell, you may switch between full-time and part-time status.

While LSAT scores and GPAs help predict law school performance, nonquantifiable information about you is also very important. William Mitchell believes diversity of intellectual and personal experience enriches our educational environment and considers experience gained through work or volunteer activities. The committee reviews non-academic factors by considering the résumé, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.

We promptly notify you by mail of our admissions decision. If accepted, you will be asked to make a nonrefundable deposit, applicable to tuition, to reserve a place in the entering class. You also will be asked to have an official copy of your undergraduate transcript sent from your undergraduate degree-granting school directly to the William Mitchell Office of Admissions before you matriculate. The transcript sent to William Mitchell with your LSDAS report does not constitute an official transcript and does not meet this requirement.

Applicants who have questions about any step in the admissions process are encouraged to contact the Office of Admissions.

Persons with disabilities with special needs

We review and process all applications in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. William Mitchell also has taken steps to ensure that campus facilities are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Applicants with disabilities can often receive special accommodations in taking the LSAT. Instructions for requesting special accommodations are included with the LSAT registration materials or online at www.lsac.org. For all students with disabilities, the admissions committee welcomes supplemental material, including letters of recommendation and brief samples of written work, which will increase the committee’s understanding of the applicant’s academic and professional potential.

Admitted students with disabilities should contact the dean of students at (651) 290-6362 to discuss required accommodations.
