Typical PLP questions
How do I find out when PLP programs are scheduled?
Programs will be scheduled throughout the year. Program announcements will indicate which of the PLP components the program fulfills. PLP programs will be announced on the Mitchell Web site, in The Docket and on the college’s calendar of events. PLP program schedules will be listed on the monitor outside Room 115.
How much time do I have to complete PLP requirements?
Entering students must complete PLP requirements by the end of their third semester. Because many of the programs are designed for first-year students, it is recommended that you complete most, if not all, of the requirements during your first year.
What if I do not complete PLP program requirements on time?
Students who do not complete PLP requirements by the end of their third semester will not be permitted to register for the fourth semester until all requirements have been fulfilled. In extenuating circumstances, a student may petition the Dean of Students for permission to fulfill a PLP program requirement by writing a 15-page research paper. The topic must be pre-approved by the Vice Dean.
I entered as a transfer student. Must I complete the PLP program requirements?
Students who enter Mitchell with advanced standing (transfer students) are typically not required to attend orientation but may attend programs they think may be valuable to them. Students who have completed comparable courses at another law school may waive Civil Procedure or WRAP, upon approval of the
Dean of Students. In these circumstances,
certain PLP components (Ethics and Professionalism, A Lawyer’s Role in Society,
and Civil Procedure) are waived. However, transfer students must comply with all other
PLP program requirements before they will
be eligible for graduation.
How do I report completion of PLP program requirements?
Copies of the certification form are available in the Office of Multicultural Affairs in Room 115 or online. Complete and submit this form to the Academic Programs Coordinator at Sharon.VanLeer @wmitchell.edu or in Room 115 before you begin your third semester.
Do I get any credit for completion of PLP program requirements?
Completion of PLP requirements is noted on your transcript.
