The William E. McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court Competition is a national inter-scholastic appellate moot court competition sponsored by the University of Minnesota Law School. Its goals are to promote interest in all areas of civil rights law and to help interested students develop the oral advocacy and writing skills essential to be successful appellate practitioners.

The intra-school competition consists of students participating in teams of two or three which starts in October and the national competition is held in March. Each team will write a brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on a problem involving a recent case in the field of civil rights. The coach will pick the top two briefs to compete in the oral arguments held at the University of Minnesota. This competition does not have a regional competition, students compete in the intra-school competition and then national competition.

Students receive one credit for the brief writing and another credit for participating in the oral arguments. This competition is open to all students who have completed the Writing & Representation: Advocacy course.
