This competition focuses on trademark and unfair competition law and policy. Competitors are required to write an appellate brief and do both on and off-brief oral arguments. The regional competition is in Chicago. The winners of the four regional competitions advance to the national round in Washington, D.C. This round is usually judged by sitting Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit judges and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board administrative judges. This competition awards cash stipends for the winning team, the team which authors the best brief, the best individual oralist, and to the winning team's school. The brief is written over Christmas break. Oral arguments for the regional round are in late February and the national round is in mid-March. Two credit hours will be granted to competitors.
Students interested in competing in this competition must take the course IP Appellate Practice.
